The National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) is a major player in basic research on the global stage and the only organisation in France that is active in all fields of science. Its unique position as a specialist in multiple fields means that it can bring together different scientific disciplines to shed light on and gain insight into current global challenges, in partnership with public sector, social and economic stakeholders. Together the sciences are used to bring about sustainable progress that benefits the whole of society.

VIB is an independent research institute that translates insights in biology into impactful innovations for society. Collaborating with the five Flemish universities, it conducts research in plant biology, cancer, neuroscience, microbiology, inflammatory diseases, artificial intelligence and more. VIB connects science with entrepreneurship and stimulates the growth of the Flemish biotech ecosystem. The institute contributes to solutions for societal challenges such as new methods for diagnostics and treatments, as well as innovations for agriculture.

The aim of this GdR is to promote the sharing of skills between research teams, in order to develop strategies to overcome the obstacles limiting the study of the regulation of gene expression, and the organization of the nucleus into territories, signaling networks, membrane traffic, etc.

This GdR brings together teams from biology, physics, chemistry, image processing, computer science and applied mathematics.

The missions of the GdR are:

  • To unite teams from different disciplines and to promote the pooling of resources and skills between these teams in order to develop new strategies in living microscopy. Through Thematic Actions, teams will have the opportunity to develop joint research projects in order to set up new tools and experiment with them.
  • To provide access to cutting-edge strategies through technology platforms
  • To set up communication and training tools
  • To participate in the creation of a European network of excellence in living microscopy research axes
